Chris Mellon joined Burton Kelley, LLP in 2025 as an Associate Attorney. He brings over a decade of litigation experience, including extensive trial work in both criminal defense and civil commitment proceedings. Before joining the firm, Mr. Mellon served as a supervising attorney at the Spokane County Public Defender’s Office, where he represented individuals in involuntary treatment matters and led a team of attorneys in the civil commitments department.

Mr. Mellon began his legal career in Illinois, where he worked as a public defender in Champaign County, handling a wide range of misdemeanor and felony cases. He has first-chair trial experience and a longstanding commitment to client-centered advocacy. His transition to insurance defense law reflects a passion for litigation and a dedication to producing strong, strategic outcomes for clients.
Mr. Mellon earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2009, where he was a member of the Law Review and received honors in legal writing and legal research courses. He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Computer Science from North Carolina State University.

A recent transplant to San Diego, Mr. Mellon enjoys running, ultimate frisbee, cooking, and spending time with family.
